Kathy Blevins – Women on Mission Director

Kathy has been a member at FBSC for twenty-three years as of 2023. Kathy has been serving as the Women on Mission Director for a minimum of fifteen years. She was born in Morley, MO and has lived throughout the Scott County area for much of her life. Kathy moved to Chaffee, MO when her husband Jim retired from the United States Navy in 1985. They joined First Baptist Church of Scott City in 2000. Kathy became a Christian at the age of five. God blessed her with Christian parents who took her and her siblings to church at least three times a week. When she noticed people going forward after church services to speak with the pastor, she thought they were all wanting to become preachers! When asking her mother about this, she explained that people want to have Jesus live in their hearts and they want to serve him. Kathy knew that this is what she wanted as well. Her mother was shocked when Kathy went forward at the altar call and asked to become a Christian. Kathy was later baptized at Morley Baptist Church. Kathy and her husband Jim celebrate their fifty-fourth anniversary July 5th, 2023. God blessed Jim and Kathy with three children, Tom born in Rhode Island, Sarah in Mississippi, and Phillip in Virginia. Their oldest son, Tom died in January 2022. They have four “grandest” grandchildren. Kathy stated she has “lots” of favorite Bible verses but God gave her a life verse several years ago. “Look around and see among the nations, and see, wonder and be utterly amazed. For I will show you a work in your days that you would not believe even if I had told you.” – Habakkuk 1:5. Kathy has graduated from Oran High School, Baptist Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Memphis, and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School Women’s Health Care Program in Dallas. She is internationally certified in the evaluation of Adult, Adolescent and Child Physical and Sexual Abuse. After fifty years, Kathy retired as a Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner in 2013 with sixty years experience in evaluation of Child Abuse cases. She is still currently licensed as a Registered Nurse.
